Biography


Susan Bello PhD ATR, a member of the Association for Spirituality and Psychotherapy, was born in Brooklyn, New York and for the past 34 years she has been living in various countries around the world studying and researching techniques which reconnect us with our inner world and potentials of human consciousness. She lived for 16 years in Brasília, Brazil developing her work in Art Therapy. She received her doctorate in Expressive Therapy and The Psychology of Art from the Union Institute in Cinn. Ohio, completed her M.A. in Humanistic Psychology from California State College, Sonoma and her B.A. in Education and History from New York University.

She initiated her studies and research into the dimensions of human consciousness in India, where she lived from 1971 - 1974. During these years of her spiritual journey she lived with Tibetan refugees in Northern India and Nepal learning how to weave Tibetan carpets, studying their designs, Vipassana meditation and Buddhist philosophy, yoga, Hinduism and sacred symbols in these religions.

From 1980 until 1985 she lived in Indonesia and Singapore and studied painting. She founded the International Women's Artist Association of Singapore and participated in various group exhibits with other members of this association.

In 1987 she founded and directed the Center of Creation, in Pirenópolis, Brazil where she has given many workshops in the process she created, Spontaneous Painting. She is a licensed Biodanza instructor and has integrated Biodanza into her work with Spontaneous Painting. She is the author of the book Painting Your Soul: a method to develop the creative personality, published in Brazil and currently being translated into English. Dr. Bello currently conducts workshops at various universities and cultural centers in Brazil and the United States facilitating people in how to access other dimensions of consciousness through spontaneous painting.
